June 10, 2010 by Lucy Kelts · Comments
Always fun and the entire family can participate…see the running of the grunion on the beach. What are grunion? They are small silvery fish about 5 inches long that come on to the shore to lay eggs and then return to the sea, but the sight of all the fish on shore, generally at night, is quite a spectacle! Check website for schedule. Persons over the age of 16 are required to have a Fishing license to catch them.

Or, for the more adventurous, try it for yourself. The first lesson is FREE! http://sandiegopolo.com/

Pizza Port! A Short Trip from Rancho Santa Fe
Pizza Port! If you have never hung out with the local crowd at this Solana Beach favorite, you are missing out. Casual style benches let you mingle with surfers and locals while eating some of the best pizza in town and sharing a cold pitcher of great locals beer. Much of their selection is brewed right on premises and some are named after local beaches or hot spots.

Surf’s Up!
May 16, 2010 by Lucy Kelts · Comments
Mothers Day may have just passed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the ladies in your life – wife, daughter, mother sister, girlfriend; or ladies if you want, treat yourself to something fun and exciting in coastal North County San Diego.
Whatever your age, learn to surf with Surf Diva Surf School. Founded right here in La Jolla by twin sisters Izzy and Coco Tihanyi, Surf Diva is a unique school that focuses mainly on women (although there are coed and men’s classes as well) where women of all ages can learn to surf in a comfortable environment without any pressure from the “boys.”
Surfing has long been a male- dominated sport and up until recent years there were very few female pro surfers. Not the case any longer. Women are ripping it up around the world and it’s easy to do with Surf Diva. They offer classes and camps and get- away surf adventures to Costa Rica.
For the novice who is afraid of the waves or the totally fierce and fearless adventurer, Surf Diva provides a fun learning experience in a comfortable, supportive environment. Whether you just want to learn for yourself, or give a gift to a special lady, Surf Diva provides a unique experience. They even host bachelorette parties!
No need to make excuses as to why you can’t learn to surf. As they say at Surf Diva, “The best surfers in the water are the ones having the most fun”
